Welcome!
“This is the day that the Lord has made; let us rejoice and be glad in it.” Psalm 114:24
Welcome! ¡Bienvenidos! My name is Robin Mathews-Johnson, and I’m the Pastor here at Wesley United Methodist Church. We wish to thank you for joining us!
As believers, we affirm that God loves us all. To us, all means all! We want to share God’s love with everyone we meet, just like Jesus did.
First, for those who have been hurt by religion, we’re so sorry. We grieve for the horrible ways people are judged so blithely in the name of God, how you may have been judged, ignored or hurt. We seek in all we do here to make this space safe and supportive. We know that all of us are at different stages in our own faith journeys, and we’re good with that.
We strive to love alike, even if we don’t always think alike.
Like John Wesley, our namesake and founder of the United Methodist Church, we understand Scripture in the context of experience, tradition and reason. We never park our brains at the door. We believe in rolling down justice, being a part of creating a world governed not by might, power and judgment, but rather by love, mercy and grace.
As United Methodists, we live by three simple rules:
Rule #1. Do no harm.
Rule #2. Do good.
Rule #3. Stay in love with God.
Today we declare that all persons are individuals of sacred worth.
Here at Wesley, we offer second chances, forgiveness and hopefully a friendly, supportive presence. Or at least, that’s our goal. Although it’s kind of like herding cats, we believe our core connection to the holy mystery is a pathway done more completely and meaningfully with the support of others. Wherever you are, this is holy ground.
