Our sanctuary building, John Wesley Hall, was originally consecrated for worship on March 30, 1969. We will celebrate 50 years of worship in this sacred space on the last Sunday of March. The Fresno District superintendent, Rev. Debra Brady, will be our guest preacher and we will continue the celebration on the patio following worship with finger foods and snacks.
To donate finger foods for the event, contact Pastor Karen. Drop off 3/31 at 9:30 a.m. in the John Wesley Hall Kitchen.
Thanks to Darren Hess of Kingsburg Honey, the bees are being rescued from the tower in our John Wesley Hall. This has been a long time problem and concern, but thanks to the persistence of Trustees Chair, Mark Layous, the bees are finding a new home and the tower is being cleaned up and sealed. It’s a Honey Bee Rescue!
Each week Wesley folks share special days and people in their lives. We celebrate birthdays and anniversaries and we celebrate recovery dates. We celebrate and lift up special people, days and memories. Often people sharing also make a donation to Mission & Me and these donations are disbursed by the Finance Committee to mission outreach beyond the regular budget of our church.
At their January
- $500 each to the Boys & Girls Club and Stone Soup
- $250 to the United Methodist Committee on Relief
- $250 to the Annual Conference Disaster Relief Fund
- $500 to Wesley Food Ministries (1/2 to the pantry and 1/2 to Base Camp)
- $250 to Sew & Sews
- $45.29 to the Pastor’s Discretionary Fund
Thank you to all who shared on Sundays in 2018. Your giving extends far beyond Wesley through your generous hearts!
Bishop Carcaño has scheduled a series of Post-General Conference Episcopal Visits to inform our clergy and congregations about the actions of the General Conference and the implications for our conference and denomination. These visits will also be times of prayer and seeking God’s way forward for our ministry in the California-Nevada Conference. Visits are scheduled throughout the conference. The meeting in closest proximity to Fresno is Wednesday, April 24th, 6:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. at Tulare United Methodist Church. Carpools will be arranged and all are encouraged to attend.
You might reconnect with creative activities. One way is to use your camera/phone to take photos and to share them each day throughout Lent. Photo-a-Day has been a fun and creative discipline for many Wesley folks over the last few years. Re-think Church provides a “calendar” of words to focus our photos and thoughts. Post your photo on social media and add a hashtag like #wesleyfresno #whereallstillmeansall and #reconnectingwithanunhurriedGod
Here are some dates and words to get you started:

- March 7 Tempted
- March 8 Given

“No Child Sleeps on the Floor in Our Town” is the motto for the project called Sleep in Heavenly Peace. It’s Fresno but it’s also a working project in many major cities across the U.S. As you know, Wesley contributed sheet sets, pillows, blankets and handmade fancy pillowcases sewn by the SewNSews.
I got the privilege of accompanying the team last Saturday to make two deliveries. One to a home where two kids were sleeping on the living room couch and the other where four children were sleeping on the floor in their bedroom. It rained absolutely cats and dogs but our team of about 8 loaded the van at Lithia Subaru with the headboards, footboards, wooden frames and slats, and all the beddings for the 6 beds.
We carried all the things into the first apartment and met the family who were quiet but oh so appreciative. Four volunteers stayed to assemble the beds and the rest of us went to the next home. There we assembled two sets of bunk beds. Mom turned the heat up for us and in the small bedroom we worked to get one bed finished and then another and then the beds for the tops. We were sweating and taking jackets off but working quickly and in rhythm to get the job done. The little boy, about 4, and his sister were peaking in on the progress every few minutes and charged in to help us finally put the sheets on, the blankets and the pillows. But they jumped from bed to bed in their excitement and then posed for our cameras on the top bunks with huge smiles and thank yous.
One mom had to have beds or she would lose custody of her two and the other had been homeless until they got this apartment. Families who have kids sleeping on the floors can apply to Sleep in Heavenly Peace for beds and this 2019 we have 450 requests for beds!! That’s just Fresno. Think of the nationwide need.
June 15th will be a nation-wide Build Day at Lithia Subaru on Blackstone with help from Lowes and many, many volunteer hands to build the beds. It’s on my calendar – what do you think? Wanna come?
