Wesley hikers update

This is a message update about the hiking trip planned for this Saturday, March 3rd.  It also has information about the next upcoming hike…all from Myra Cubos…

Last month’s hike around Millerton Lake was amazing! Within 20 minutes, we saw a bald eagle magnificently perched on top of a tree. On the way back, three golden eagles soared above us. I spoke with John Presley, who also texted Henry. Due to rain in the forecast, this Saturday’s hike is cancelled. Looking forward to April 7th and 14th.

April 7 – Hite Cove (James & Joellyn lead) – moderate difficulty, 8 mi RT.
South Fork of Merced River – Shorter hike (Henry lead) – easy to moderate in difficulty, 4 mi RT
Trailhead is at Savages Trading Post on Hwy 140, 22 mi northeast of Mariposa. Longer hike to Hite Cove (ruins of a one time vibrant mining village).
The first 2 miles down to the river beach has most of the wildflowers and 1/2 mi further is a great lunch spot on a rippled rock ledge just above river level.
Those who need ride or can give ride, meet at Wesley at 7:15am, rendezous at Hillside Market on Yosemite Springs Parkway (YLP) at 8am, then carpool/caravan from there to trailhead.

April 14 – Birding at the San Joaquin River Gorge (former Squaw Leap)
This is a Sierra Foothill Conservancy event, free to the public. If you are interested, you need to register at the sierrafoothill.org or call 209-742-5556 ASAP. As there is a day-use parking fee, it is advisable to carpool as much as possible. Please let James or Joellyn know if you have successfully registered, so we can make sure everyone has a ride there.

Peace,

Myra
